Council Rundown

January 9th, 2024

The Regular Meeting of Council of January 9th featured two major items.

Public Works Office AODA Renovation Project Tendering

Council approved to tender the project to renovate the Public Works office to bring it into compliance with legally required AODA standards by January 1, 2025. The project budget is estimated at $1,051,834.50 plus HST at this stage. This budget includes a 10% contingency for unexpected costs which would only be consumed if required. During construction, members of the public can seek assistance with Public Works related business at the Fire Hall.

CUPE 534 Contract

Council accepted the Memorandum of Settlement with CUPE Local 534 (Public Works Collective) and passed a bylaw to execute a new Collective Agreement for a three-year term.

Mayor and Councillor Announcements

Council Members wished all a Happy New Year.

Councillor Nadeau expressed his encouragement to the Public Works Department who contended with their first major snow event of the season on January 10th.

Councillor Kallioinen expressed his thanks to the St-George Church for allowing him to participate in their recent centennial celebration marking the 100th year since the church was constructed at 213 Tudhope Street.

Mayor Gervais expressed his enthusiasm for the year ahead.

Special Meeting following the Regular Meeting

Following a closed session to discuss matters about identifiable individuals, Council passed a resolution to hire consultant David C. King of Municipal Advisory Services to assist Council with human resources matters. A resolution was also passed to begin the process of recruiting and hiring a Treasurer.
