2014 Municipal Elections

Friday, 15 November 2013/Espanola, Ontario

The Corporation of the Town of Espanola will be utilizing the Vote by Mail alternative method for the 2014 Municipal Election.  Instead of travelling to a polling station on Voting Day, the ballot will be brought to your mailbox.  Voters will be able to fill out their ballots in the privacy and convenience of their own home.  Casting a vote will be as easy as mailing a letter!

The Corporation of the Town of Espanola will conduct the election in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, and has chosen to use an alternative voting method, S.42 (1)(b), which involves the use of a mail-in ballot.  This alternative voting method has been used in Municipal Elections since 2000; it assists in making the election accessible, improving efficiency and voter turnout. Vote by mail eliminates polling stations, advance polls and proxy voting.  It transforms every mailbox into a ballot box.  Vote by mail kits will be provided to every person who qualifies to be an elector.

Information on this convenient new way for you to voice your choice in the 2014 Municipal Election will be provided via the municipal website at www.espanola.ca, facebook at www.facebook.com/TownofEspanola, Channel 10, newsletters, and the local newspaper.  Stay tuned!
