Espanola Runners Compete in Local Community Event

Wednesday, 24 July 2013
Espanola, Ontario

Espanola Mayor and Council congratulate the municipality of Sables Spanish River and the volunteer organizers of the 37th Annual Friendly Massey Marathon.  The 10km run, half marathon and marathon attracted over 200 runners to our region and served as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Dave Stonley, one of the volunteer event organizers, is pleased to report that 18 runners qualified for the Boston Marathon.  The core organizing committee pulled in between 100 and 150 volunteers primarily from Massey and neighbouring communities of Sagamok and Spanish.

We are proud of our Espanola runners who competed in the race and grateful to the volunteers for their dedication and commitment to making the Friendly Massey Marathon such a successful and annual family friendly event.
