Espanola Scores NOJHL Team

Espanola Town Council has sealed an agreement with Tim Clayden, a Governor in the NOJHL and franchise owner of the new NOJHL team.  The new Espanola team will launch their community presence by hosting a youth hockey school in Espanola in August, followed by tryouts and training camp for the 2013-2014 season.

"It is an honour that our fellow NOJHL Governors have put faith in Coach McCarthy and myself to resurrect NOJHL junior hockey in the Town of Espanola. The community, Mayor Lehoux and his fellow Council Members and Staff have been second to none in making our organization feel welcome. Our NOJHL Executive leadership is as good as any throughout the country and we are ready to take on the newest challenge of starting a new junior hockey program for area junior hockey fans to enjoy and cheer for throughout the Lacloche-Manitoulin Region"

"The addition of an NOJHL franchise hockey team in Espanola is a significant win for both the community and hockey fans alike," says Mayor Lehoux, "Junior 'A' hockey is good business; a boost to both our economic and community development. This Organization is known as a winning team both on and off the ice; their management practices cultivate leadership & community stewardship by having their team and players committed to community involvement and volunteerism initiatives, under the leadership of Coach Tom McCarthy".

Coach McCarthy, a retired professional hockey player, played for the Minnesota North Stars and the Boston Bruins over a span of 10 years. He has since held coaching positions with the Greater Toronto League, the Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.
