Localized Flooding Possible

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS
Updated April 19, 2013

LOCALIZED FLOODING POSSIBLE

Over the next 7-10 days record amounts of water flow are expected resulting in melting snow from areas north of us in the Spanish and Vermillion watersheds.  As a result of this water there is a potential for some localized flooding, areas at high risk where road closures are possible include:

  • Penage Lake Road at Black/Darkie Creek
  • Highway 6 at McCulloch Drive
  • Mead Boulevard at Black Creek

Due to the increased risk, we ask residents to:

  • Listen to the latest warnings and advisories on Moose FM 99.3 & CTV
  • Check the Town of Espanola website, Facebook, Community Channel & LED for more information & updates
  • Avoid flooded areas, do not drive through flood waters
  • Never try to cross a flooded area on foot
  • Minimize home water use during heavy rainfall
  • Do not use washing machines or dishwashers, flush in moderation
  • Check storm sewers for debris, if you can remove debris with a broom or shovel do so, if not report to Public Works

If you reside in an area at high risk of being flooded, some alternative measures may include:

  • Removing valuable items from the basement and lower-level areas
  • Shut off electricity, furnaces and the outside gas valves if safe to do so

We will provide updates as new information becomes available.
