NOJHL Hockey is Good Business

March 8, 2013

"Securing an NOJHL Junior A hockey franchise for the 2013/14 season is an immediate and obtainable business opportunity" says Jill Beer, Chair of the Economic Development Committee and Deputy Mayor.  "We need to embrace this as an economic opportunity; 24 additional haircuts a month, think of the impact 24 hockey players will have on grocery sales alone!  The impact to restaurants, gas stations and hotels is significant – we need to grow our community one business at a time and this is a great way to start."

The goal is set for Espanola to sell 400 season seats to score an NOJHL team.  "Espanola has the ideal facility for us," says franchise holder, Tim Clayden, "what we don’t know is if there is enough community support to back our investment and make this a sustainable venture.  Season tickets are the backbone of NOJHL hockey.  We need to know we have an economic base of support to complete this move."

A community meeting will be held to outline the program philosophy of the team and explain how it will impact the local business and volunteer sectors.  Anyone interested in growing Espanola's economy & establishing a thriving hockey presence in the community is urged to attend Monday March 18th, 7:00pm at the Recreation Complex.
