Grand Opening of Arena Grill

August 1/2011

The Arena Grill was named in 1951 as a compliment to the completion of the Espanola Memorial Community Centre.  In 1960 Leon and Grace Eng purchased the restaurant  and served up a mix of Chinese and Canadian cuisine.  The Arena Grill closed its doors in 1991 when E.B. Eddy purchased the property and was demolished the following year.   The memory of this popular family run eatery and Greyhound Bus Stop will live on at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

"Our arena canteen was due for a facelift, renaming it the 'Arena Grill'  was a fitting choice to pay tribute to our rich heritage" says Dianne Polden, Manager of Espanola Leisure Services.  "The Eng family generously agreed to our using the name and provided us with some historical photos of the Arena Grill which we’ve incorporated into the décor."

The new 'Arena Grill' will officially open on Thursday, August 18th at 8:15pm just before show time at Espanola’s first ever viewing of Yogi Bear on a giant, inflatable, outdoor movie screen.

Join Mayor and Council and the Eng family as we celebrate our heritage with the Grand Opening of the new 'Arena Grill'.
