A Racquet of a Celebration Planned at Tennis Courts

Tennis enthusiasts Don and Daphne Allen moved to Espanola from Elliot Lake 13 years ago and became champions of our community courts by sharing their love of the game with all ages and abilities by offering free tennis lessons.

Don Allen passed away this year but his volunteer legacy lives on.  Daphne Allen has donated memorial shade benches for the tennis courts as a tribute to both her husband and her son Dave.  Dave inherited his parents love of the game and became a professional tennis player who also, sadly passed away last spring.

The memorial benches will be unveiled at a Tennis & Tea celebration in honour of Don & Dave Allen on Sunday June 3rd at the tennis courts from 2:00-4:00pm.  The celebration will also mark the opening of our new pickle ball courts.  Pickle ball is the largest growing racquet sport in North America.  Volunteer pickle ball and tennis enthusiasts will be on site at the celebration for demonstrations and round robin play.

The community is invited to celebrate the volunteer tennis legacy of Don Allen & son Dave in an afternoon of active play served up with ice tea and of course a few crunchy pickles just for the fun of it!
