Espanola Awarded Funding for a Commuter Cycle Plan

The Town of Espanola was successful in its application to the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling (OMCC) program fund.

The funding opportunity was announced in the summer of 2017 by the Minister of Transportation as part of the Province’s Climate Change Action Plan 2016-2020 initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Ontario


The OMCC allocation for the Town of Espanola is $25,000 towards the development of a commuter cycle plan.
The funding is designated to create a plan to lay the framework to develop an active transportation network to improve cycling infrastructure, identification of trails, improve signage and increase cycling amenities.

“We thank the (OMCC) for having confidence in our application and supporting our efforts towards cycling development & increased cycle safety in our community” says Mayor Piche, “This is a great project to begin our New Year with!”

Espanola is part of the designated Lake Huron North Channel Waterfront Trail system and in 2018 will be part of the new Georgian Bay Cycling Route connecting the Lake Huron North Channel Waterfront Trail system to Manitoulin & the Bruce Peninsula.
