“Town of Espanola Donates $3500 to Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scan Fund”

SUDBURY, ON – “It’s an awesome donation,” says Tannys Laughren, Executive Director of the Northern Cancer Foundation, “generosity like this from our friends in Espanola is something we’re getting accustomed to.”

Back on February 9th, Espanola councillors voted unanimously to donate $3500 on behalf of the town. This donation means that the Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scan Fund has raised approximately $2.2 million dollars for the advanced diagnostic tool – just short of half way to their $5 Million goal.

For Northeastern Ontario, the nearest P.E.T. Scanners are in Toronto and Ottawa – a long and costly trip for many patients who are already ill.

"We all know how urgently a P.E.T. Scanner is needed for the people of Northeastern Ontario, we are happy to be able to help close the financial gap in making this purchase a reality,” says Espanola Mayor Ron Piche, “I encourage all other municipalities to follow suit and take part in paving the way to provide Northeastern Ontario residents with access to this state of the art medical equipment."

The Northern Cancer Foundation would like to extend its unending thanks to the Town of Espanola and its residents for being steadfast supporters of cancer care, research and equipment in Sudbury and Northeastern Ontario.
