Volunteers Deck the Boughs

Wednesday November 16, 2011

A volunteer contingent from the Espanola Horticulture Society decked the boughs with balls and bows as part of the annual winter hanging basket initiative.

Twelve volunteers laboured for a collective contribution of approximately 60 hours of volunteer work. Cynthia Townsend, CAO for The Town of Espanola recognizes the beautification value of the hanging basket initiative.  "Without such diligent and caring volunteers small municipalities such as ours would not necessarily have the resources to make such projects possible.  Though volunteer generosity and commitment is not easily measured it's useful to assign a monetary value to those contributions. The hours of work to prepare the baskets could be costed out at well over a thousand dollars."

Industrial Park Development Put On Hold

Council for the Town of Espanola has received an official confirmation that due to funding limitations the Kilganan Group Ltd. has withdrawn their proposal to purchase land in the Industrial Park.  The Kilganan Group with support from the Town had applied for funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) under their mandate for promoting local economic development initiatives. The funding application was denied and as a result this very viable economic initiative was not feasible within the current time frame, culture, or the NOHFC targeted market.
