“We are relieved to arrive at a resolution with Domtar Inc.,” says Mayor Mike Lehoux,  “This agreement will help to stabilize taxation and contribute to an economic, social and cultural climate conducive to growth.”

“We are pleased to have reached this important agreement with the Town,” said Scott Mosher, general manager of the Espanola pulp and paper mill.  “We believe it is in our mutual interest to ensure a sustainable mill operation in Espanola and contribute to a sustainable community, and we believe this agreement accomplishes these objectives.”

The agreement settles outstanding matters with respect to the mill’s assessed value from 2009-2016 and industrial tax rates from 2013-2016.

Espanola’s After School Program to Operate Under New Umbrella

After four years of operating the After School Program the Town of Espanola is handing over the reins to a community partner.  As of this September, the free After School Program, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism Culture & Sport, will operate under the leadership of Our Children Our Future out of A. B. Ellis Public School.

Freedom of Information Requests Granted

It has been almost a year since requests for the Town’s February through May 2013 cheque registers and credit card information were first made.  Similar information had been provided for several months prior to this through similar requests.  The Town’s Freedom of Information Coordinator denied these requests under the “frivolous and vexatious” exemption under the Act.
