A Day in The Park

A community fibre art project is underway in Espanola, Ontario. A collaborative project between the Espanola Fibre Arts Festival & the Espanola Public Library will support the creation of a massive fibre art installation that will be titled 'A Day in the Park'. Fibre artists and enthusiasts will be creating & contributing elements that represent their experiences enjoying park spaces. All components of the installation will be created from fibre – yarn, fabric, wood & paper. The results of several weeks of creation will culminate in a massive fibre art installation of 'A Day in the Park' during this year's 7th annual Espanola Fibre Arts Festival in October. The installation format and location(s) will be revealed as the time of the festival approaches in October.

The Town of Espanola and the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers (the Municipalities) are pleased to announce the acceptance of a letter of intent from North Bay Hydro Distribution Ltd. The Municipalities and North Bay will now proceed with the next phase of the process which includes the completion of due diligence and the preparation of a definitive agreement of purchase and sale. North Bay Hydro President and COO Matt Payne added “We are very excited by the opportunity to create a Northern Partnership with Espanola and Sables-Spanish Rivers that will enhance future sustainability for our communities.”

Fire Chief Urges Residents to Install Smoke Alarms and Practice Home Fire Escape Plans

In the wake of a fatal fire in Oshawa, ON on Monday, January 8, 2018, a recent fire in Espanola where a dog woke up a young girl, and 6 fire related fatalities in the province already this year, the Espanola Fire Department wants to remind the public to make sure that they have working smoke alarms on every storey of their home and outside all sleeping areas, and have practiced a home fire escape plan with everyone in their home. 

Espanola Awarded Funding for a Commuter Cycle Plan

The Town of Espanola was successful in its application to the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling (OMCC) program fund.

The funding opportunity was announced in the summer of 2017 by the Minister of Transportation as part of the Province’s Climate Change Action Plan 2016-2020 initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Ontario
