This position will include working evenings and weekends.
Qualifications: The successful applicant must have a grade 12 diploma or be a full-time student; National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid & CPR-C, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, Certified Pool Operator. Experienced or qualified aqua fitness instructor considered an asset. Previous deck-level supervision preferred.
Requirements: Willing to obtain Pool Operator’s certification; Must be prepared and able to personally interact with public; Act in a professional and confidential manner.

Summer Employment Opportunities - File No. 2024-PWD-01
The Town of Espanola is now accepting applications for 9 Summer Student positions (beginning of May until late August) with the Public Works Department. These positions will assist PWD with general clean up and maintenance, including but not limited to litter pick-up, grass cutting, construction site flagging, painting, beautification and other general labour tasks within the community.
Applicants in a post-secondary program and returning to school on a full-time basis in September 2024 will be given priority. Eligible students must provide transcript of current year and proof of returning to school in the forthcoming year. Current CPIC from your local police service (within 6 months) will be required in order to be hired.

We are looking for an outgoing, service-oriented, tech savvy librarian to manage our library, get involved in our community, and lead our library into the future. Espanola Public Library services the town of Espanola and three contracting areas, with a total population of about 6,570.
Reporting to Espanola Public Library Board, the CEO is responsible to the Board for administration, organization and planning of library operations and services, in accordance with approved policies and budgets; advises the Board and makes recommendations; and serves as the Board’s representative to the Town and the community, to professional associations and government agencies. The CEO is expected to exercise initiative and take independent action.
Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) plays a pivotal role in the administration, organization, and planning of library operations and services. The CEO advises the Board, makes strategic recommendations, and represents the Board's interests to the Town, community, professional associations, and government agencies. The role requires initiative, independent action within prescribed limits, and adherence to government regulations.
Responsibilities:
Develop and propose objectives, policies, and actions for Board consideration.
Ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation.
Plan, coordinate, control, and administer library operations within approved budgets.
Foster relationships with the Town of Espanola, local organizations, and the general public.
Oversee personnel management, health and safety, procurement, and facilities maintenance.
Manage programming, collections, services, and computer systems.
Stay informed about job-related issues through conferences, literature, and professional associations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective communication using various methods.
Active participation in professional networking and learning communities.
Strategic financial management, budget alignment, and fiscal issue monitoring.
Strong technology skills, including proficiency in standard computer hardware, office software, and library databases.
Familiarity with the framework of public library service, both general and local.
Qualifications:
Master degree of Library and Information Science from ALA, Library Technician Diploma, or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of leadership or management experience, preferably in a Public Library setting.
Willingness to pursue professional development.
Must be able to provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen.
Assets:
Bilingual (English / French).
MLIS with relevant experience.
Salary Range:
$71,439 - $85,727 (2023) + benefit package

The Espanola Public Library is currently accepting applications for the Summer Library Clerk positions. These are seasonal positions, 35 hours per week running May through August. The positions will be responsible for the creation, promotion, and implementation of the 2024 TD Summer Reading Program and will also assist with routine front-line library services. Strong communication skills are essential. Previous customer service experience and the ability to speak French will be considered assets.
To be a successful candidate you must:
- Be attending a high school or post-secondary institution full time prior to summer employment.
- Be returning to a high school or post-secondary institution full time in the fall of 2024.
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30.

The Summer Student wage starts at $17.00.

Under the direction of the Town of Espanola‘s Manager of Environmental Services and Special Projects, the Climate Change Specialist will be responsible for the creation of a Climate Action Plan for the Corporation of the Town of Espanola.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead research and technical analysis including greenhouse gas (GHG) quantification and modelling and tracking.
- Identify potential climate mitigation and adaption initiatives.
- Conduct research on issues that relate to climate change and sustainability.
- Gather data, information and synthesize information for the development of recommendations to senior staff and Council
- Respond to research requests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or diploma in climate change, engineering, environmental studies, or related environmental/science field.
- Experience with climate change initiatives.
- High level of awareness of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and the ability to translate the work to stakeholders.
- Excellent research skills and experience with GHG emission inventories.
- Ability to work independently and be an engaged team player.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong organizational, presentation and analytical skills.
- Openness and willingness to learn new skills and a personal commitment to continuous development.
Preferred
- Experience with public sector and/or community climate actions plans.
