Town of Espanola to Hire a Manager of Community and Recreation

The Town of Espanola will be recruiting for a Manager of Community and Recreation as part of a number of organizational changes recently approved by the municipal Council. For a number of years, the Leisure Services Department has been managed by the Manager of Public Works along with their regular duties. It has been determined that the municipality and our comprehensive recreation operations will be best served with a dedicated full time leadership position. Highlights of the position include the efficient and effective planning, programing, budgeting and management of all municipal recreation/leisure services. The Corporation expects to post the position for applications in April 2022 with the expectation of completing the recruitment process and having the position filled by early summer 2022.

In addition to and as part of these organizational structure changes, the current Manager of Public Works and Leisure Services, Mr. Joel Yusko, will take on a newly created role as Manager of Environmental Services and Special Projects reporting to the CAO/Treasurer. This role will allow the Corporation to more strategically focus on long term planning as relates to capital projects, waste management, asset management, climate change initiatives and energy efficiency planning. The current Assistant Manager of Public Works, Mr. Dave Parker, will move into the Public Works management role with a new title as Superintendent of Public Works responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Public Works Department reporting to the CAO/Treasurer.

“As we move forward as an organization, this restructuring will help the Town develop a more proactive and consequential approach in how the Town provides services to the residents and businesses of Espanola” – Allan Hewitt, CAO/Treasurer

“These steps in reorganizing critical leadership positions for the municipality are essential to the Town’s success as we bolster our tremendous recreation complex. It is also necessary that we look at ways of doing our part in tackling climate change by focusing on green initiatives”. – Jill Beer, Mayor
