The total residential tax rate for the Town of Espanola declined in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and remains below the 2009 level.  The term "mill rate" was removed from the legislation and methodology in 1998 as a component of Ontario's overall tax reform.

The property tax calculation is: Property Assessment (from MPAC) x Tax rate (set by Council).

Tax bills for New Homes
Property owners who have moved into a newly constructed home will only receive a tax bill for the land portion of their property until the assessment office determines the assessed value of your house (which may not occur until several months after your move in).  Owners are responsible for property taxes from the occupancy date.  A bill will be sent once the Town of Espanola receives the assessment information.  If you wish to pay based on an estimated amount, it can be credited to your tax account and applied against the taxes once they are billed.  Contact the Tax Department at 869-1540 to discuss the option further.  Alternatively you can wait for the installment(s).
