“Capacity building & addressing the health of our older adult population were the benchmarks of the funding criteria,” says Mayor Piche, “the project will create more traffic on the existing Al Secord Trail which serves as the cardio warm up to the Outdoor Fitness Trail. Two pieces of outdoor fitness equipment will be stationed along the Al Secord Trail. With user numbers heavily weighted when applying for funding existing highway traffic which stops at the beach and picnic area strengthened the case for the development.”
Outdoor fitness areas are designed to accommodate all fitness levels, promote active aging, and be accessible and user-friendly. An accessible walkway will border the park.
The area is currently being developed with future plans to add shade structures, and enhance the picnic areas which will be dependent on additional funding applications.
In late spring of 2017 a personal trainer will be onsite at the park for free scheduled orientations on the equipment and the Care Van will be scheduled for senior transportation as part of the Provincial Funding.
